Our Journey
Our Personal Journey
Our journey started with an upbringing of ongoing trauma that left us fighting eating disorders, self-harm, depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts. We discovered later in life that we also were experiencing Dissociative Identity Disorder as a result of the childhood trauma. In 2009, we started our healing journey by going to a long-term residential program to get our life back on track. Our passion has been to help others see that there is hope, that they are not alone, and to bring awareness.
We have shared our journey at multiple events like the Women’s Leadership Forum that included audience of Julia Gillard, Layne Beachley’s Aim for the Stars Foundation Gala, and various other fundraising events for Destiny Haven. Our story has featured in magazine/media interviews such as 7 News, My Big Story, Hunter Lifestyle Magazine, Yarns Magazine, and others.
Our Fashion Journey
After initially discovering sewing and creativity at rehab, we completed a two-year Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology in 2014 and received a Designer of the Year award. Since then, our designs have been featured in 5 runway shows, 30+ magazine spreads and covers, countless photoshoots and a selection of short fashion films. You may have seen some of our designs in various places, such SBS, 7New’s My Big Story, Vogue Italia’s Photovogue, Hunter Lifestyle magazine, Mercedez Benz’s Instagram or Kirrily Lowe’s Invisible She book. Or you may have seen our designs popping up at the red carpet at the Brownlow’s, on Lenovo campaigns, at the Instyle Awards, New Gen Hair Expo, or Val Morgan’s Christmas party at the Contemporary art museum, or perhaps at one of the Hillsong Christmas Spectacular’s.
Along with being a brand ambassador for Lenovo, we have received and been an ambassador for Layne Beachle’s Aim for the Star’s foundation grant. Our designs were awarded the Ross Weymouth Memorial Award at the Fashion Awards Australia in 2015.
Since completing our studies in fashion, we went on to complete a Diploma in Business Leadership and Management. We also spent 3 year working in a custom couture bridal atelier in Sydney, where we honed our eveningwear skills. In between, we continued to create and design gowns to apply the skills we learnt and also explore creativity.
Now our design skills will be put to use in collaboration with Birds with a Feather. Stay tuned for what’s next!
